  刘世荣,中共国际竹藤中心党委书记,兼任生物资源利用科学研究院院长,中国林业科学研究院副院长,森林生态学领域首席专家、研究员,博士生导师,国家级跨世纪学术技术带头人,国家杰出青年基金获得者。现任国际林业研究联盟组织(IUFRO)、国际生态学会(INTECOL)执委和森林与水研究特别工作组协调员(Task Force of Forest and Water Interactions),国际科联工作协调委员会(ICSU-CHINA)委员,中国生态学会理事长,中国林学会森林生态分会主任委员,生态学报、植物生态学报、应用生态学报、林业科学研究和湿地科学与管理杂志的副主编,自然资源学报编委,《Ecohydrology》、《Forestry》和《iForest-Journal of Biogeosciences》国际期刊的编委。目前,主要从事森林生态学领域研究,包括生态系统碳氮循环、土壤碳过程及固持机制、生态水文学和全球变化对森林和物种的影响与适应机制等方面的研究。曾取得过国家科技进步二等奖三项,省部级科技进步三等奖三项,获第四届中国林业青年科技奖,主编或参编的学术专著有10部,在国内外发表学术论文300余篇,其中SCI收录论文100多篇。目前正在主持的项目有国家自然科学基金重大项目“陆地生态系统中生物对碳氮水耦合循环的影响机制重大项目”的课题“植物对森林生态系统碳氮水耦合循环的作用机制”(2013-2017)、林业公益性行业科研专项《气候变化对森林水碳平衡影响及适应性生态恢复》(2014-2017)和“十二五”国家科技支撑计划项目《西南和热带森林可持续经营技术研究与示范》(2012-2016)。
